Sundays at Southlands

Place:  The Southlands Foundation, 5771 Route 9 in Rhinebeck, NY

Petting Barn with goats, sheep, pigs, mini donkeys, mini horses, chickens, rabbits, and much more.  Pony rides are available for a $10 donation.  Money benefits the Southlands Foundation, an independent, not-for-profit, educaional organization dedicated to providing for and understanding of the environment and its creatures through outdoor recreational activities, particularly in the instruction of horsemanship, horsemastership and husbandry to people of all ages.  For more information, call (845) 876-4862, or click here.

Curious George: Let's Get Curious!

Place:  Strong National Museum of Play

Environments and activities inspired by the beloved books of Margret and H.A. Rey and the PBS KIDS TV series.  Get up close with Curious George, the inquisitive little monkey with an insatiable taste for adventure.  Follow his lead, engaging in math, science, and engineering activities modeled after his own adventures.  Developed by Minnesota Children's Museum, Universal Studios Consumer Products Group, and publisher Houghton Mifflin.  Strong Museum is open Monday through Thursday and Saturday, 10:00am - 5:00pm; Friday, 10:00am - 8:00pm; and Sunday, 12:00pm - 5:00pm.  Admission is $9.50 for adults, $8.50 for seniors, $7.50 for children under 17, and kids 2 and under and Strong members are free.  Click here for more information.

Rochester Out of the Darkness Walk

Support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention by participating in the Rochester Out of the Darkness Community Walk.  Proceeds will benefit local and national suicide prevention and awareness programs.  Registration will begin at 8:30am.  To register, donate or get more information, click here.

E. Bloomfield Historical Society Oct. Program

Place:  East Bloomfield Historical Society Academy/Museum, 8 South Ave., E. Bloomfield

Bonnie Zechmann and Jim Thies joined a group sponsored by "Journeys of Inspiration" to climb Mount Kilimanjaro earlier this year.  The group of 40 hikers joined together for this amazing, positive experience to promote the efforts of the American Cancer Society.  The members of the group were either cancer survivors or closely connected to someone with cancer, and they raised about $200,000 for the society.  They also took 900 pounds of school supplies for the children in Tanzania, and delivered them to a Massai village.  The presentation includes both photograps and video of this journey up the mountain.  Click here for more information.

Flea Market/ Garage Sale

Vendors are wanted for the Flea Market/ Garage Sale.  An 8 foot table space will be provided to display your items for $15, or double your space for $25.  Homemade soups, chili and baked goods will be sold by the Chapter throughout the day.  This event is sponsored by Eagle Star Chapter No. 350, Order of the Eastern Star.  For more information, call Jill at (585) 367-2322.
